This month I’m running a series of diffuser recipes to help people get rid of candles and use their diffusers instead. These “scents” that we love so much in our homes are doing damage to our bodies and our health. I’ll be the first to admit that I used to be a candle junkie — until my son was diagnosed with asthma and his pediatrician said to toss ALL the candles. I had no idea what damage it could have been causing us.

The National Academy of Sciences points out some vital facts about synthetic fragrances. About 95% of the chemicals used in synthetic fragrances are derived from crude oil (petroleum). These can include benzene derivatives (carcinogenic), aldehydes, toluene and many other known toxic chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects, central nervous system disorders and allergic reactions.

Dr. Axe states: “Avoiding the dangers of synthetic scents is crucial. It’s something I need you to share with your family and friends. When a company puts “fragrance” on the label, don’t be tricked. This is a catch-all term that actually can stand for thousands of different ingredients (literally, at least 3,000). And when you use a product containing “fragrance” or “parfum,” all of those mysterious ingredients are absorbed right into your bloodstream. These ingredients are predominantly made from chemicals and are just outright toxic for your health in so many ways.”  https://draxe.com/health/dangers-synthetic-scents/

Did you know that the FDA doesn’t require fragrance & cosmetic makers to disclose exactly what they are using to scent their products?

Wonder why companies would continue to use synthetic scents if they’re so bad for our health? The answer is straightforward – money. Synthetic scents can be an extremely cheap way to give everything from shampoo to lotion to candles a desirable scent.

There is a better way — get out your diffuser and essential oils, and start using them! When you diffuse Young Living oils, you are making your house smell great. AND you aren’t harming your body with synthetic fragrances.

Today is day 1. I’ll be posting a new recipe each day in January. Join me this month and try out these diffuser recipes. I think you’ll love all of them. What are some of YOUR favorite diffuser blends? Leave a quick note in the comments and let us know.
