WOW!
Last Thursday night I went back to college. I was so nervous. Its been 26 years since I had been to any college. Just like when I was taking exams, I procrastinated to the last minute. Man. Its a bit of a rush when you have a looming deadline and a to do list a mile long. But I pulled it off just fine, as I knew I would.
University of Massachusetts, Lowell is just up the road from me, about 35 minutes. It is well known as a great college for the sciences. On Thursday night I went up with one of the professors to walk some of the students through how to help themselves survive the stress of finals with oils.
I had been asked to come up and lead them in making a focus roller. We set everything up in the common room of one of the dorms, and I put on the diffuser. The scent of StressAway and Peppermint drew a bunch of the residents down the hall looking to see where ‘that super nice smell is coming from!?’
The focus roller we made was a blend of vetiver, cedarwood and lavender. This one particular blend I’ve written about before in this post about how it helps me get through ADD days.
Another offering we had was for them to make room sprays to help get rid of those weird smells that always seem to permeate dorms. I was super happily surprised to hear some of the students were familiar with AND HAD diffusers in their rooms! What a really nice thing to hear. Candles are so bad for indoor air quality and in a closed building like a dorm, candles would just exasperate the issue. And yes, there is the issue with candles being banned because of fire safety…. but you know….. AIR QUALITY!
The blends we made were stress away and peppermint, stress away and thieves, lavender and stress away, lavender and lemon…. do you see a pattern? All scents that reduce stress. Finals started on Friday morning and these students ARE READY!
The ladies and men I met on Thursday would do their parents proud. They were all really polite, fun to be around and the time I spent with them flew by. One trait that sticks out above the others is that when I texted them all after the event, the majority of them texted back to let me know they received the text. This alone was so much more than any other event coordinator/participant had done in the past. I cant wait to go back in the spring and host the next one.
Good luck on finals! See you in April!
