What is your favorite spot in your house? Normally my favorite spot is my bed. Its cozy, warm, soft, squishy, and full of cuddles and hugs. Lately though my favorite spot is my desk.
A Desk?? you ask? as a favorite spot? Yup, you did read that right. Earlier this year, WAY BACK in May, I got a new vacuum (courtesy of Sample Sale Mom FB page), and finally opened it in September – which resulted in pulling up the rug & pad, replacing the rug pad, washing the rug, washing the hardwood floors, re-arranging ALL the furniture and setting up a new school area. PHEW! All in two days, an entire flurry of activity while my family was banned from half of the house.
J asked me to relocate my desk and workspace from the front of the living room to the back, to be next to him. So we created a work area of our living room. Its busy, cluttered but really works well for us. I’m loving how we the room divided into different areas, a relaxing space (not shown) and a working space. Just behind the couch there is a baby gate to keep doggo from being “THE Interrupter” during zoom school.
Its now my favorite place during the day. We each have our own wiggle seats, our own diffusers (see his suctioned on the window!), our own headsets, lights and writing areas; but we’re together in the same space – both of us working. [the spray bottle is our squirrel deterrent – water and vinegar]
Each morning of school-at-home starts with him choosing an oil, putting water and scent into the diffuser, and checking off items on his check list – that sits in his homemade in-box [yup, its made from a YL shipping box]: getting snacks, water, pencil and eraser, then logging into his class.
The current blend chosen today was KidPower, the new KidScents blend.
The KidScents line is pre-diluted and safe for kids 2 and older, which makes it easy for grown-ups since there’s no guessing the dilution rate. The oils in this particular blend have been chosen for helping to ease occasional feelings of doubt, fear, and worry – as well as creating a comforting environment for times of daily stress. Perfect choice for school-at-home!
The key oils in the blend are:
- Black Spruce: Earthy and grounding to help balance the senses
- Blue Tansy: Has a floral aroma that is uplifting to the senses
- Frankincense: Popular for meditation and promotes a comforting environment
- Geranium: Promotes peaceful, spiritual feelings
- Ho Wood: Provides a floral, relaxing aroma
- Orange: Has a sweet and energizing aroma
- Vanilla: Sweet and comforting
To me it smells like a cream-sicle, a soft blend of orange and vanilla that feels like a summer day, standing outside near the ice cream truck. Now that smell is associated with math, stories read by a teacher, surprise hugs and kisses from behind. At my favorite place I can write, look out the window at the birds, watch the trees turn colors, or close my eyes and listen to my son become an confident, engaged, and lively student. Every once in a while I hear a whispered ‘Mamma, you’re my favorite mamma.” Heaven.

Tug at the heart strings… I 100% agree! Treasure it. What a lucky kid. Lucky Mom. Lucky Dad and doggy too. 🙂
