I LOVE my chiropractors.  Local to me in Massachusetts, Dr. Pam and Dr. Lauren work miracles for my family and have become an important part of helping us keep and stay healthy.  Keeping your nervous system in line basically helps everything else in your body work better.  I often bring oils with me to use as both Dr. Lauren and I like YL oils.

My son loves getting his ‘back rub’ from Dr. Pam and its really important to me to keep his system running well.  He has a parkour class every week that teaches kids safe ways to jump, leap and fall.  This also means he’s falling a lot.  And while he’s falling on squishy turf, its nice to have someone put all the pieces back where they belong afterward.

I’m in awe of how much chiropractors know about the human body and how each system works in conjunction with the others.  I really feel they are the best first line defense to stay healthy.

Dr. Paul Perreault, today’s guest writer, is a chiropractor and owner at Align Maine (www.alignmaine.com) in South Portland, Maine. He studied at Palmer College of Chiropractic West. He’s married to my friend Lauren [not the Dr. Lauren above, a different Lauren.] (Wait WHAAT?? I just realized I have 4 friends named Lauren!) and they have a beautiful family.  You can read more about Dr. Paul here on his website.

What tips do you have for staying healthy?

Tips for Your Holiday Health from Dr. Paul

As we enter into the holiday season, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Instead of resisting that, what if we all simply accepted that it’s hard to avoid experiencing at least a little stress from the season, and put our attention on taking care of ourselves in the midst of it all? Since it can be easy to neglect our own health during this time of year, I wanted to offer a couple simple tips to keep you healthy and happy throughout the holiday season.

GET YOUR SLEEP
Sleep is necessary to regain your strength, and decompress your bones and joints (especially your wonderful spine). Sleep is also an important time for your immune system to get to work. So work on improving your sleep hygiene! Make some sleepy tea, use CBD, diffuse some Lavender, and stay away from screens.

DRINK YOUR WATER
The air is much drier during the winter season. The air pulls the moisture from our own bodies, so drink plenty! Also, get your clean humidifiers going in all of the bedrooms.

EAT YOUR VEGETABLES
Heartier root vegetables are in season and make for some great cooking! If you aren’t eating your vegetables, be sure you are taking a multigreens supplement. It is unreasonable to think that you can stay healthy without fueling your body with necessary nutrients. Just as your car will breakdown without proper fluids, your body will not maintain its health without the necessary nutrients. So either eat your veggies, or get a good multigreens supplement. I’d be happy to recommend some good ones! In addition to multigreens, be sure to get a good D vitamin. Vitamin D supports your immune system and gives your body an energy boost.

USE YOUR ESSENTIAL OILS
Essential oils are fast becoming a part of every healthy household. Be sure you learn from a reputable source, and use the highest quality oils. Of course I recommend Young Living essential oils and CBD products, as I can personally attest to its quality and purity. Check our website for some oils classes, or reach out to Lauren with questions about getting a home starter kit. Using essential oils is easy, healthy, and cleans the air in your home, leaving it smelling fresh and wonderful.

GET YOUR SPINE ADJUSTED
The drier winter season means the joints are drying up, making you feel stiffer than normal. Arthritis also becomes more active during these months. Get your spine adjusted to restore normal motion. Your overall health will improve as well. That’s right, you are healthier following an adjustment! Chiropractic is the largest alternative healthcare field in the world. Yes, it is effective for treating back symptoms, but it serves a much larger role in terms of your overall health. If it’s been a while since I have seen you, don’t wait!

DO YOGA
Finally, make time for a yoga practice. If you haven’t done that yet, start with one class per week. If you have been neglecting your practice, come back. Michael and Angela at Maine Hatha Yoga are in full swing at their new location (our former studio). The heat is incredible, making it easier to move your body, and give you a great detox from the deep sweat. The deep sweat comes from the yoga sequence squeezing you from the inside out; it also comes from the great therapeutic radiant heating. This heat draws the sweat from deeper within the body, producing a detox each class!

I’d like to wish you all Happy Holidays and a Healthy New Year!
Yours in health –
Dr. Paul
