Lately when I wake up, my first thought is “Please let today be calm, and keep everyone healthy.” Throughout the day I’m constantly saying to some one or another of the beings in this house “CALM down”, or “breathe in, blow out, calm breaths”. Have you had days like that? How do you keep calm on days when everyone else is crazy?

I gravitate toward oils on crazy days, sometimes to my CBD oil, and sometimes to tree oils – cypress, northern lights black spruce, juniper, pine, and cedarwood. These pair so amazing well with other calming oils that, to me, are more ‘floral’: ylang ylang, lavender, geranium. Today I have a uplifting blend of cypress, juniper, eucalyptus, and lemon myrtle. Its grounding, calming, and just enough energizing to allow me to get stuff done!

  • Northern lights black spruce smells like the best live Christmas tree you’ve ever had in the house; paired with lavender – man, its a blessing for everyone.
  • Cedarwood and geranium pair so nicely together, they really love playing in the sandbox (diffuser) together: cedarwood is woodsy and sharp, geranium is big floral and bright.
  • Ylang ylang and juniper – a combo I didn’t think would work well, but also is really great. Juniper is tangy and resinous, helping to break through the heaviness of ylang ylang.

And then there’s also CBD. CBD is good with everything, except maybe a diffuser (I haven’t tried it in there yet). The CBD calm roller has great oils for soothing craziness eucalyptus, frankincense, lavender, orange, vetiver, and ylang ylang. This roller helps me relax and quiets my mind and I use it ALL the time. Its super easy to use and have within arms reach for whenever I need it. [While this might be TMI, if you wear a larger size bra, the roller bottle fits perfect in my cleavage.]

**My favorite though is the cinnamon CBD oil. **

We use cinnamon CBD for everything that hurts. I like that it doesn’t have a menthol or cooling sensation, & have convinced myself that its a warming oil and it creates some heat. I use it mixed with coconut oil and marjoram for a muscle rub, neat on the base of my skull for stress migraines and on my lower back when my sciatica acts up. When I have a god-awful migraine I apply it with helichrysum and rub it everywhere it hurts.

What I like best about Young Living’s CBD oil is that there is 0.0% THC in it. (third party tested). Any terpenes removed as part of the THC removal are added back in by using the essential oils. Nature’s Ultra created a ‘smart spectrum’ category: an  high-quality CBD isolate grown from plants using organic and sustainable farming practices and NO PESTICIDES. Because the isolate has the natural terpenes removed during the THC removal process, by adding in non-cannibis plant terpenes (YL essential oils) you get a more rounded, more complete oil that you can trust is clean.

Lately though, sleeping can be a challenge. Even with the calming affect of the CBD oil, sometimes we need more help. And we know I’m not one to turn to conventional ‘sleeping pills’. So we put in place a strong bedtime routine that includes a sleep story, sleep music in addition to all of our oily things.

I have this great app called Calm, my amazing neighbor Diana recommended to me. I’ve since purchased a lifetime membership for the it. Its an app with music, stories, and meditation. There’s a series for almost anything you might need, meditation, sleep, kids, gratitude, music, and stories [AND FOCUS!]. My two favorite narrators are Anna Acton, and Eva Green. You can hear them both on the free offerings Calm has on their Calm Together blog. Most times I’m asleep before the story ends, and always the kiddo is asleep by then as well.

The Calm app is also great for when you only have 3 minutes and need to calm down now. On the paid app there’s a guided meditation called ‘Emergency Calm’, and when I was less patient, I used it OFTEN. The woman’s voice is soothing, non-judgmental and it just works. Check out their free resources, and if you love them grab the app too. Occasionally they offer a lifetime membership which is an enormous bargain. And, just so you know, I’m not getting anything from Calm to tell you about them. I just love the app and want people to know about it.
